Choose Wisely

Our words should be chosen carefully

for people will hear them and

be influenced by them

for good or

for ill.

Yesterday in the main shopping mall in town a security guard was stabbed and killed by an 18 year old 'boy'. It is a terrible thing to happen and I wonder what thoughts were going through the boy's mind when he took a knife with him to a music shop, and what words he said to himself to justify killing someone? It seems to me that the habitual words we use become part of our karma.

This is part of our practice. This is also a very difficult part of my practice. To be mindful of what one says. My recitation of Amituofo during the day helps me be mindful of my thoughts and actions. We are so conditioned to be cynical and sarcastic and often do not see the way in which our words effect others.

Amituofo!
